notabluesbro: ([Serious] You need to think for a minute)

1st Confession [Voice]

[Waking up dazed and confused in a desert with wings on your back... after thinking you're dead... never really helps a situation. Last he checked he was inking out his last bit of life on a church floor. And now he's in a shitty pile of sand with black wings on his shoulders. He was either alive and tripping back home in Gunsmoke, or he was on the road to a less than impressive Hell. But... that's a forest in the distance? He must've been seeing things. Worth a shot, at least?

So he staggers for an hour like a confused drunk and finally makes it to this green, wondrous land, were he just... collapses near the closest stream and drinks until his poor lungs feel a little better. Of course, after taking a short nap under a tree, he wakes up to a fat drop of rain smacking him in the forehead.]

Wha...?

[Is that... rain? Really? That's... sort of a miracle. Lots of miracles lately, eh? The journal falls open and voices trickle out of it. So after staring at it for a few minutes, he... speaks at it. After all, looking crazy is better than sitting out in a rainstorm--

He can't believe he's actually in rain. Real rain, none of that feigned sprinkler crap. And the desert's so goddamn tiny...]

Hello...?

Why in God's name am I talking to a book...

Can anyone tell me where the heck this place is? I'd also be really grateful if anyone could point me to the nearest food stand... Mainly if it has a nice, sturdy roof and something either warm or alcoholic to drink...

[A thoughtful pause. His back did feel too light...]

...And, uh... if you've seen a giant cross sitting around, let me know, huh?

[Aw, hell-- he sort of missed this.]

Mushi are a variety of life, in my world-- very few people can see them at all, but they come in myriad forms.

They exist on a plane somewhere between truly living, and dead-- more like pure energy than anything. But they interact with everything in the world around them, sometimes in the manner of viruses or pestilence.

Something like that. [a rather rueful smile] --some species. There was a huge influx of them, into this place-- a few months back. Your friend Vash managed to catch himself a Mizukagami-- a mushi that steals the reflection, and will eventually replace its host's body.

It was fortunate that the cure didn't involve killing the mushi-- or I don't know what I would have done. [...probably lied to him. ]

[Ginko's a little surprised-- he often is, by gratitude-- then he smiles a little strangely.]

Ahh, I don't know about that. [there's something about Vash that he finds so curiously innocent-- even though it's clear that the man isn't naive. Ginko gives Wolfwood a thoughtful look.] Mushi aren't good or evil-- their lives are like those of plants, or animals-- driven just to survive.

I don't have to make the choices that some have to make.

[then he shakes his head a little, with a soft exhale] So not much of one-- no. I can afford to only take life when I have to.

[Ginko's been around enough to recognize the purpose of the outstretched hand by now, and meets it with his own-- inclining his head a little out of habit]

Ginko. Heh- nice to meet you.

Maah, [handwaves all this] don't worry-- you'd have to be well into the mountains to get into that kind of trouble.

And Moro really isn't so dangerous, if you've a good head on your shoulders.

[Okay, maybe now he's exaggerating a bit. But hey! Positivity.]

[he.... tries not to look amused at that picture] She is indeed. And Moro has a very fair loathing of guns and those who carry them-- human ideals mean nothing to her. She's carrying a bullet in her chest that will be the death of her, when she returns to her world-- and the forest she was charged to guard was nearly obliterated by humans seeking iron, to make more guns.

But she has her own kind of fairness, as gods do. [which included a bite that had him bedridden for near a week, but his tone is completely accepting] She's never killed without reason and fair warning, that I know of.

[wryly] Indeed. You'll start forgetting they're there, eventually.

Everyone comes in with their own ideas of normal and abnormal-- gods, demons, and humans alike. Certainly makes for an interesting study in humanity. [and humanity is the sweeping category in which he places all living things with hearts and minds-- even humanoid turtle ninjas.] I can understand the Malnosso's interest-- if not their methods.

[that "decently handled" elicits a rather uncharacteristic harsh sound from Ginko] Hardly. They nearly split the place in half, a few weeks ago. They're at war amongst themselves and besieged from the outside by another race-- an effort they recruit the people here to help with.

It's their knowledge of a certain kind of technology-- or phenomenon, it isn't really clear-- that gives them the power to keep everyone here, and conduct the experiments.

[a hum deep in his throat-- and he wonders, himself, if you'll be one of those volunteering to kill Third Party members, before all is said and done.]

The things is... from what I've heard, since I've been here, whatever force draws us into this world isn't one the Malnosso are operating intentionally. They keep us in this enclosure-- but it doesn't seem they select and bring people at all.

[he notes that gleam--- and it's not an unfamiliar one. Comes of befriending pirates: he's getting better at recognizing hot blood. But his own nature is to calm; dispel-- and his tone is even.]

Any name that appears on their roster is bound to be taken to the appointed headquarters outside the barrier; even though the man currently claiming to be in charge seemed distressed about this, it seems it was beyond his power to change anything.

So far, there's always a handful of individuals who didn't volunteer themselves who end up being sent-- very seldom has it included children, as there aren't too many here, and those who do go along are able to occupy themselves taking care of the wounded. Vash was one of them, in the last round. [a shadow passes over his expression, when he talks about this. Thinking of the girl young enough for him to call her a child, volunteering to weight murders on her conscience for what she believed was the good of others. It's the closest the mushishi will get to anger.]

[His look might be placid, but there's a grin in his voice at that.]

Well, Wolfwood-- I think that puts you in pretty good company, here.

Ahh, don't worry about. It's been a long time-- [smirk] And my normal line of work isn't so different.

[but he stands-- he has more ground to cover, in the private route he's constructed in his head] Think you can find your way to town?
