[His back feels like shit.

...Maybe an exaggeration, but it still stood—something about the nakedness of his back was driving him insane. And that probably ruined vertebrae? It made him feel awkward and stiff at the shoulders all day prior. Strange how some things are even physically etched into your make-up over time. Forget the mental aspect of it, there's something a little more parasitic about that damn cross.

Behold, Luceti, he's emerging from the Smithy looking a lot more like himself: black suit, sure. Cigarette dangling on his lips, yes. ~~Bitchin'~~ Sunglasses, check. But now he's holding that ginormous cross like a shiny new present all for him. Untouched, it seems. Good. He didn't plan on showing it off any freaking time soon, but... still, he felt like he had to carry it—

Wait, what was he planning on doing with the damn thing? Carry it around the village?

Siiiiigh. Wolfwood, come on, think a little. Just shape up and get used to it...

He slings it over his shoulder like usual and automatically regrets this move.]

[You'll also catching him walking back toward Vash's place with said cross, looking a little less like he's about to kill a small furry creature. Don't mind him too, much... He's just, uh, avoiding forests because holy shit did you hear about the giant wolf?]

[She nods.] I have a friend who is from a planet like that...

[And her smile softens, growing self-consciously wry] I'd never seen spring, before coming here. It's very different in the South Pole - our summers just get a little bit warmer and there are some flowers that grow by the sand, but... mostly it's just snow.

Snow? I'd love to see some of that, sometime...

He's been hearing that a lot since getting here, and it makes him smirk a little. Because, hell, Vash did have a lot of friends now, eh? Must've felt nice losing his usual title. Just to be sure, though—]

[A friend of Vash means that what little caution she has in talking to a stranger completely evaporates.] That's right! You're a friend of his too?

Yeah, we used to travel around a lot together, us two and Meryl and a gal named Milly, back home. And he was aaaalways getting us two into trouble, too. Lucky for me, I was the athletic type.

[As in, 'avoiding bullets and giant sandworms' atheltic. B|]

[She smiles brightly.] He stays with Meryl here too! I'm sure he's glad to see you.

[She... hasn't seen Vash since after the draft. She really should have checked up on him, since she saw the way they dragged him - wearing nothing but at towel - to the transportation site. But she'd been dealing with her own emotional issues after fighting in that war, and then Luceti had kind of... exploded. Still, she feels bad.]

Aaah, he's too emotional about things like seeing old friends. But I appreciate the warm welcome from him and the others, despite it.

[He grins at her.]

And of course he'd make such good friends while I've been gone.

[What's that? I do believe we call it a blush. Don't ask her why.]

Well, I don't blame him for being happy to see you - he's been here even longer than I have.

[Shakes herself, back on target.] So are you settling in all right?

Ha, I'm surprisingly okay with most of what's going on... Which is weird, because I'm typically the pessimistic one in the herd. But it could be much worse, so I'll take what I can get.

Besides, Needle noggin seems to really like it here, even with all the crazy stuff people bring up.

All the same, she nods.] It could definitely be worse. [And it has been worse, even here.

She turns to regard the giant... thing he'd been carrying.]

What's that? I've never seen anything like it before.

Aah, this fella here? It's... sort of a good luck charm, but it's also a tool of the trade—I'm a priest, if you know what those are. [He grins.] Not a whole lot of people know what a priest is here... It's pretty weird, considering how needed I was back home.

This guy is a symbol of faith, but it's also a symbol of mercy, in my religion. I've had it since I was younger than you, so... it's a little hard to part with, admittedly.

Faith and mercy? [She reaches out to touch it, but stops short of actually doing so. And then she shakes her head, smiling a little.] No, I don't know what a priest is, but it sounds nice. [If faith and mercy is his business then... he must be a really good person.]

[He smiles, a little sadly at that.]

It can be nice, but I happen to be a horrible example for a priest, little lady.

Buuut at least I'm in a place where jobs aren't too big of a deal! Getting cash was pretty damn hard back home, and at least I don't have to worry about starving in a desert?

[...anyone who admits something like that gets automatic genuine points in her book, not just dreamy assumptions.]

No, even if the grocery store fails again, there's plenty of game here - and someone even has the ability to make plants grow faster! So we should be all set for the basics.

The grocery store 'failed'? Don't mind me asking, but what'd I luckily get to miss?

...well, you've heard how the Malnosso claim that they are all just trying to go home? That the reason why they experiment on us is to try to find a way to send all of us home? Well, I was never sure how much to believe them, since as far as I could tell the experiments were just useless, painful things...

But a few weeks ago, we had an earthquake. And everything just - stopped working. The power cap lifted, monsters broke in, the grocery store stopped replenishing itself... [We were replaced with alternate versions of ourselves...]

I think it proved at least one thing that they said was true - they don't completely know what they're doing.

[As with the time speaking with Ginko, a dangerous gleam passes over his gaze—monsters, and earthquakes, and a lack of food? While he saw his own sort of brand concerning these things, it was still a lot to take in. People, many normal, were taken from their homes just for the sake of what?]

[His gaze softens as quickly as it hardened.]

Aa, it sounds like Luceti has a pretty long list of problems. But I don't believe anything they say for a second; I'd rather see them succeed and send us home instead of blabbering to us without any results.

And even if they were trying to send us home, it sounds like their methods hardly care about our own personal safety.

[She catches that shift in him and notes it - but she's not surprised that a man who travels with Vash is dangerous. She's seen Vash shoot. And she's dangerous herself. It actually gives her a feeling of familiar ground.]

They don't. They leave all kinds of dangerous and powerful people in here with us - people who've hurt others, who have the strength to do whatever they want - and they don't do anything about it. [Not to mention that their experiments suck.]

Fortunately, most of the people here really do just want to get along and get out. And when bad things happen, we all join together to face them. It's worked out so far.

[He resists the urge to fish into his pocket and grab a cigarette, instead nodding to her.]

Well, you can add me as one of the people joining in. I don't appreciate extreme bullies, especially if they're messing with so many good people—I don't know how helpful I'd even be, but I'm sure most who are trying their hardest have that very same concern.

[He smiles.]

I like to do what I can to help, yeah. [Up to the point of charging up a mountain to face someone her attacks can't even injure in order to help get back a friend... yeah.]

But like I said - most people here do. The place might be really... hard, but at least the people are really great.

Yeah, I haven't had any problems with anyone!

...Except, well, there's apparently a demon named Yuber and a wolf that might try and bite my head off, but other than those little gems of information, I've had a relatively mild stay thus far!

Moro? [Katara tilts her head and looks at him consideringly.] I don't know, she's not that bad. I mean... she is very dangerous and very... [gigantic] well, she's really big. But she...

[Okay, you know what? Moro's lack of balance when it comes to humans really disturbs Katara and she can't even think of a way to excuse it. So she just trails off into a shrug.] Well, if you think you're in danger from her, it's probably best to steer clear. I've seen her fight and it's not pretty.

As for Yuber... [Her face darkens. She's still never actually met him, but he set fire to her house while she was trapped inside. As an eight year old girl.] he teleports and uses fire and swords and other sorts of magical attacks. He's very strong too. I wouldn't want to go against him by myself.

...Sounds like a lot of people have trouble with this Yuber guy.

[Wonder if shooting him to death would piss Vash off...

Wait, this is Vash, of course it would.]

Are there any other shady people I should keep an ear out for?

...a lot of them got sent home. But with all the New Feathers coming in, who knows?

[A pause. Here, have a pet theory.] Luceti is... well, things are different here. It's obvious that the Malnosso have all the power, and there's no way for anyone to 'take over the world,' and so while that doesn't make the things that people have done any less horrible... it does remove a lot of their reasons. It gives them a chance to start over, if they want to. Now, whether or not they want to do that, or whether they at even deserve it... we're all stuck here together, and people don't stay dead.

So you never know what's going to happen to someone here... even if they were really terrible people in your own world.
