17th Confession [Video][Daytime]

[The feed seems abrupt, from black-to-color in an instant as it falls and flips open to show a... snow-drenched area...? No trees showing—just an expanse of bright blue sky and white off the edges. And then a noise nearby, off-screen—]

THUD.

[Something falls across the screen, and it's not quiet for much after that, because this is a stunned-turned-angry preacherman appearing in the video feed, back turned to the camera as he grabs the side of his head in complete shock. Or maybe it's rage. Or maybe, just maybe, it's both. One may be able to figure out from the snow, whipping winds, and barren area that Wolfwood is in fact on a mountainside somewhere.]

WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?!

[Last he remembered... he was just walking around town, same ol' same ol'... and then some brown-haired kid glared funny at him and he was gone. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN WHAT DID HE DO—]

Ah—
Achtoo!

But couldn't any girl just wear a fancy dress? That's a silly way to tell, if you ask me. --um, anyway! [ RETURNING TO THE STORY AT HAND. ]

I think she was just lost... why else would you be outside in all that rain? She was soaking wet, but she said she was a real princess! The Prince's mother, the Queen, didn't believe her, so she went ahead of everyone else to the room the princess would sleep in. And she put a single pea on the bed, then covered that pea with twenty mattresses, then twenty feather beds. And the princess would sleep on top of the whole thing. Though I wonder how they got her up there.

The whole thing was a test to see if the princess was what she claimed she was. Though... I think the Queen must have been pretty strange, to come up with that idea...

Well, the next day the Queen asked her how she slept! And the princess said she'd slept horribly, and that she was black and blue all over! She'd been able to feel the pea, even through all that. And that's how they knew she was a real princess - because only a real princess would have such delicate skin!

[ ... a pause. ]

Anyway, the Prince married her, and they lived happily ever after. The end.

Though if you ask me... that's a dumb way to make sure a princess is really a princess.

[ you know what. she is determinedly looking up from her journal, at the ceiling, as she talks. because if she looks she will scream and neither of them need that right now!! ]
